This month, many men throughout Canada will be sporting fuzzy upper lips when they are usually clean-shaven. This is in support of "Movember" an annual November moustache awareness campaign to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer research and support.
Prostate cancer is mostly curable (90%+) if caught early enough. With 1 in 6 men being diagnosed in his lifetime, it is crucial that men are aware of how important testing is. Early testing is so important that insurance companies offer an advance benefit for early detection. With critical illness policies, the full amount is payable for life-threatening cancers. However, for early diagnosis of prostate cancer (stage T1a or T1b) an advance of up to $25,000 is given. This is where it pays to get tested!
Be sure to spread the word so that we can reduce the number of men lost to prostate cancer (estimated over 4,000 in 2009). Look around and see who's participating this month and check out movember.com
